When bringing the funk.....

Yes......I was rocking that hard.

It's amazing how your guitar playing skills evolve with you.
I've always been interested in octives...I love the way they sound. How they complement the root note. I would always be aware of what octive is where when playing. Just now I have discovered a couple of new slap techniques that use those beautiful octives. I don't know why I was never aware of THE FUNK and the use of octives. It's opend up a new world for me. Not to mention that my girlfriend Casey bought me a new guitar for my birthday. That is by far the coolest thing anyone has ever done for me. She's great. That was a definate influence of the discoverence of THE FUNK. I highly reccomend this bass... http://www.ibanez.com/BASS/guitar.aspx?m=BTB200 I forgot how much I love the feel of Ibanez basses. Fender is so stiff...you can't make it slinky like you can with an Ibanez and you certainly can't bring THE FUNK with it. Fender is great for picking jazz though. I feel like I've found my little niche in the bass playing universe ...I feel like this is the style I was meant to play because of my early obession with octives....it all makes so much sense now and I can truely express myself through THE FUNK. I always felt a missing link between playing and expression. I thought to myself...well, maybe if I learn the acoustic guitar instead...or, maybe I should work on my singing...maybe then I could express myself to a satisfying level. Now that's not a problem...It feels great to fall into that grove...I lose myself completely, It's the most incredible feeling, I feel like I'm complete. Now for your enjoyment here are some bass quotes that are.....enjoying.

Paul McCartney
"Voices should be first, guitars and drums should be second, and then you should kind of get a feel of the bass."
"The fat boy in the back was the bass player, and who wanted to be him? We all wanted to be guitar players."

Jaco Pastorius
"I know all about these basses of mine, every bit of chicken grease and every drop of sweat that's ever been on them."

"Work towards developing a telepathic relationship with everyone in your band, especially the drummer."

Flea
"It's the same band that we had before with John, but obviously we've grown as people and musicians, and especially when we write music the way we do, which is an unstructured thing that relies on emotion and intuition and spirit.....With John, that's what we're doing, is trying to channel the energy that's all around us. The energy that's around us now is different from the energy that was around us seven years ago."

"There are more interesting things happening musically outside of rock. When I listen to rock bands, I think most of them suck."

"The majority of young men I know are led around by their penises. I was."

Troy's coming up today for my birthday. Which means we're going to do alot of jamming. I'm happy as a clown.
